Criminal investigation is a two way street. Many times it may be the objective of the investigator, working with a defense attorney to verify and gather new evidence which may end up freeing a wrongly imprisoned person. Legal investigators specialize in cases involving the courts and are normally employed by law firms or lawyers. They frequently assist in preparing criminal defenses, locating witnesses, serving legal documents, interviewing police and prospective witnesses, as well as gathering and reviewing evidence. Legal investigators also may collect information on the parties to the litigation, take photographs, testify in court, and assemble evidence and reports for trials. During my years with the police department I have testified many times and feel quite at home on the witness stand. |
