Criminal investigation is a two way street.  Many times it may be the objective of the investigator, working with a defense attorney to verify and gather new evidence which may end up freeing a wrongly imprisoned person. Legal investigators specialize in cases involving the courts and are normally employed by law firms. They frequently assist in preparing criminal defenses, locating witnesses, serving legal documents, interviewing police and prospective witnesses, as well as gathering and reviewing evidence. Legal investigators also may collect information on the parties to the litigation, take photographs, testify in court, and assemble evidence and reports for trials.

My firm can serve your civil and legal papers pursuant to the State of Michigan Rules of Civil Procedure. I will also deliver packages of a valuable or sensitive nature, person to person.

I locate missing people or those whose whereabouts is otherwise unknown for a variety of reasons. They may be a long-lost relative or friend or an old sweetheart or loved one. Then, there are also witnesses, debtors, heirs and deadbeat parents etc.  I will also work with law enforcement to locate serious missings or parental kidnapping cases. And I will work with your attorney, consult with you and make other recommendations in such cases.

Surveillance can take many forms, and incorporates the art of stealth and concealment, good judgment, and the proper equipment.  Most detectives and investigators are trained to perform physical surveillance, often for long periods, in a car or van, while stationary or on the move, until the desired evidence is obtained.  They may observe a site, such as the home or business of a subject, from an inconspicuous location. The surveillance may involve using still and video cameras, binoculars, cell phones and computers.

In cases for employers that involve fraudulent workers’ compensation claims, investigators may carry out long-term covert observation of subjects. This could be combined with the interviewing of likely witnesses such as neighbors, coworkers or relatives.  If covert surveillance is warranted and an investigator observes a subject performing an activity that contradicts, or tends to confirm injuries stated in a worker’s compensation claim, the investigator would take video or still photographs to document the activity and report it to the client.
Background checks usually begin online. Checking a subject’s background information online from public records, nationwide, helps establish a profile of the subject. Information obtained from this phase of a background check is used to help answer, confirm or guide you to the next step in a complete investigation of a subject or suspect's background. This check is used in a variety of ways such as in new relationship, tenant background checks or criminal investigations.  All background checks usually begin with this step. Investigators don't always find something new in every spot they look but good investigators always look anyway.
